Master Data Management

In today’s dynamic business, there are diverse enterprise applications in each of the corporate and line divisions. Mergers, Acquisitions and far-flung subsidiaries add more slew of applications. The paradigm poses tremendous IT Challenge.

To address this challenge, Organizations need to maintain Master Data. An organization’s master data consists of the reference data vital to record and maintain its transactional data. The complexity and importance of an organization’s master data is determined based on factors such as the transactional lifecycle across various applications, elements that form the master data set, value, and reusability across multiple systems.

Master data is an imperative asset of any dynamic and diverse organisation. With higher complexity and importance of master data, the need to manage it effectively increases. Only when this data is effectively managed, will it be possible for the organization to clearly identify and understand their customers thereby ensuring the organization’s sustainability, growth, and expansion.

A stable and comprehensive Master Data Management system must ensure that:

  • Master data is clearly understood and properly managed during mergers and acquisitions
  • Complex data hierarchies are simplified and restructured in alignment to the business needs
  • Information overload is reduced and a 360o view of the master data can be easily obtained
  • A synergistic approach is applied across the business workflows and IT solutions to increase data quality
  • Implementation leverages the technology, tools, and processes required to create and manage consistent and accurate master data

Global Biopharmaceutical Company

One of our OCH implementations was for a company that discovers, develops, and markets innovative therapeutic drugs used to fight life-threatening diseases. The company’s 4,000 employees serve physicians worldwide.

Their existing UCM solution did not work due to many technical reasons so they contacted Serene Corporation for our experience and success with Master Data Management and Siebel implementations. Our consultants quickly identified the technical problems and designed a tailor-made solution for them. Some of the key features of our implementation included:

  • Replacing multiple batch files with a single-button click and configuring multiple threads to process records
  • Configured the IIR integration to cut initial data load time in half using table-to-table loading methods
  • Configured the Batch Data Management (BDM) workflow for data synchronization
  • Reduced transaction volume to one-fifth of its previous level
  • Set a data quality threshold to a value that eliminates overhead when forming a result set
  • Configured the data quality process to identify the correct matching score by performing multiple iterations of data load

Global payments technology provider

One of our OCH implementations was for a company that provides global payments technology to financial institutions across the world. The primary function of the company is to facilitate electronic funds transfers throughout the world. They used multiple mainframe based systems to maintain customers and their attributes. These included mastering applications that were complex to use and apply and posed vital issues that affected the retrieval and usage of the reference data for a business operations user.

DDue to such issues, the current mastering efforts were not serving the business purpose and that is where the Serene’s OCH system came into the picture. Some of the key features of our implementation included:

  • Oracle Universal Customer Master (Oracle Customer Hub 8.2) was extensively rewired to match client’s mastering requirements.
  • Attribute storage was handled in non-traditional ways to allow comprehensive viewing of hierarchy comprising attributes
  • Extensive storage and strategic display of associations and relations in UCM showing various party-relationships.
  • Out-of-the-box configuration of UCM leveraged significantly along with justifiable additional configurations
  • Efficient ETL processes for low latency across systems, platforms, and security barriers
  • Implementation of an intuitive UI design and configurations
  • Web Service enablement of data queries from UCM MDM systems that allowed easy integration into the SOA Enterprise Service Bus framework prevailing in the company’s ecosystem
